Park-and-Ride Pitched

ST. PETERSBURG (SPT) The citys first park-and-ride scheme has been announced by the planning committee of the Legislative Assembly, Rosbalt agency reported.

Fifty car parks will be built on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, accommodating 250,000 vehicles, with express-buses laid on to bring visitors to the city, according to the brains behind the project Nikita Ananov, the news agency reported.

Meanwhile, to deal with ever-increasing traffic jams on the citys roads City Hall has created a new department whose chief, the traffic director, will be held personally responsible for improving the situation, Rosbalt reported.

Today marks the beginning of Lermontov-Fest, a fall festival celebrating the life of one of Russias most remarkable poets who, in a fate eerily similar to Pushkins, was killed in a duel at the age of 26. Organized by the Lermontov Library System, the next several months will see art exhibitions, concerts and public lectures focusing on the Lermontovs short yet prolific career.
