Improve your business English at SPIBAs English Speaking Club this evening at 7 p.m. with the help of native speakers, who can help explain seemingly confusing business idioms.

St. Petersburg Design Week kicks off today and will be ongoing through May 28. Interior, fashion, jewelry and urban designers, among individuals from many other fields within the design industry, will be on hand to deliver lectures, lead workshops and contribute their collective wisdom to those hoping to break into the business.

Thursday, May 22

SPIBAs HR Committee has organized a discussion on the prospects of personnel leasing in Russia in order to prepare local businesses for changes in the federal law on contingent labor to be adopted in 2016. The discussion begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be held in SPIBAs office at 21 Nevsky Prospekt. All who wish to attend should register for the event by May 21.

A number of the world's top business leaders are in St. Petersburg today through May 24 for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum at the LenExpo Convention Center. Directors, managers and world leaders will discuss the most pressing topics facing their respective industries while striking deals and building relations.

Music lovers will flock to Man and Vinyl, a flea market starting today and continuing through tomorrow at the TSGPB Art and Music Center at 20 Nevsky Prospekt offering records, turntables and some more unusual items. Discover that hard-to-find record or simply enjoy the atmosphere amongst fellow collectors and fans of all types of music.

Get your nerd on at Boomfest, St. Petersburgs answer to the United States popular ComicCon. Starting today, this international festival of comics will take over venues throughout the city center and includes exhibitions of comics and illustrations, film screenings, competitions and the chance to meet the genres authors, artists and experts.



Friday, Sept. 19


SPIBAs newest addition to their Cultural Discoveries events is Handmade in Germany, an exhibition featuring unique handmade objects of a significantly higher quality than mass-produced items. The work of over 100 German manufacturers will be displayed during the event, which opens today in the Lutheran Church of Saint Peter and Paul on Nevsky Prospekt and runs through Sept. 28.

Starting on Sept. 18 and ending tomorrow is the Extreme Fantasy Wakeboarding Festival in Sunpark by Sredny Suzdalskoye lake in the Ozerki region of the city.

Learn more about African culture and get some exercise during todays Djembe and Vuvuzela, a bike ride starting in Palace Square that includes several stops where riders can listen to the music of Africa or watch short films about the continent. The riders plan to set off at 4 p.m. and all you need to join is a set of wheels.



Monday, Sept. 22


Do you love puppetry? If so, then be sure to go to BTK-Fest, a five-day festival that starts on Sept. 19 celebrating the art. Contemporaries from France, Belgium, the U.K. and other countries will join Russian artists to put on theatrical performances involving a variety of themes, materials and eras. Workshops and meetings are also scheduled for a chance to discuss the artistic medium in further depth.
